Aya Hamdi came to the U.S. from Jordan as a teenager. As an immigrant without knowledge of the laws and rights in the U.S., Aya faced a tough period.
After living in a shelter in Oklahoma, Aya found an advocate to help her to obtain a green card and moved to Texas.
Aya worked at a couple Mexican restaurants but needed to find a more stable job when the COVID-19 pandemic hit. She came to Nacogdoches, Texas, and joined the Pilgrim’s team, which turned her uncertain circumstances to a stable career.
“I love my job at Pilgrim’s,” she said. “By working at Pilgrim’s, I was able to buy a car and my next goal, which I’m already working on it, is to buy a house.”
Aya is a lead in the wind department. She says she doesn’t want to stop climbing the ladder and is looking to be a supervisor.
“My goal is to go as far as I can go,” she said.
